Water Damage Cleaning To save your SmartPhones
Liquid damage can be extremely detrimental to your phone. Although many believe that water is the cause of the damage, it is actually the oxidation process that occurs after the water has been in contact with the copper components for a certain period of time.
When water and air mix on copper components, it causes oxidation, which is both conductive and corrosive. This process is the primary reason why a phone that has been exposed to moisture may short out, or the components inside may become corroded and brittle.
To save your phone after exposure to moisture, the best thing you can do is immediately remove the battery (if possible) and avoid turning it on. This will eliminate the source of electricity and reduce the chances of the phone shorting out. Even if the phone appears to be working after being exposed to moisture, there is still a risk of shorting out in the future due to the formation of oxidation inside the phone.
The best course of action is to take the phone to your local Phone Doctors store as soon as possible. The sooner it is brought in, the higher the chance of success in repairing the damage. However, if this is not an option, placing the phone in a bag of rice or silica gel packs may help draw moisture out of the phone faster than air-drying.
It is important to note that although these methods can be helpful, the most successful approach is to take the device to a Phone Doctors location (or our national mail-in repair) as quickly as possible so that our technicians can disassemble it and remove the water and oxidation before it causes permanent harm to the phone.
